Monday night's exhibition game between the Floydada Lady Winds and the Nazareth Swiftettes would prove to be a tough one for coach Mark Styles and his reigning district champions. Most people would not carry an umbrella to a basketball game, but this would have been a good game to have one as it rained three-pointers through out the game. Thirty six of the total one hundred and eleven points, or roughly one third of the total points scored were from out side the arc. Four of the Floydada starting five would end the game with a three-pointer, and Nazareth showed why they have seventeen state titles at home but putting up an amazing eight tres' before the night was over. Amanda Acker would lead the way for the Swiftettes with four three's and senior Kelby Myrick would add a pair to that before the end of the first half. Floydada struggled early in the ball game to keep up with a fast pace set by Nazareth through out the first half where they trailed at the intermission by eleven.
It was in the third period when the Lady Winds began to make a charge and pulled with in five with help from the sophomore Whitley Beedy and junior Tara Hughes who put together 18 of the 46 points scored. Lexi Terrell and returning All-District forward Megan Aleman both ended the night in double digits, Nazareth would however would prove to be too much for the Lady Winds as they outscored them 19 to 11 in the final quarter of play.
This Friday the Lady Winds will travel to Lubbock Christian University to take on the No. 3 seed, the Shallowater Fillies at 6:00pm in the Area round of the play offs.
