Lockney falls short of No. 1 Canadian

A record setting 28-8 season came to a close on Tuesday night in Canyon for the Lady Horns of Lockney.

After going ahead by three early in the ballgame, Lockney trailed by only one at the end of the first period. "It was a very fast paced ballgame, but we knew there was the possibility of that going into this game." said Lockney head coach Lisa Schumacher.

The Lady Cats of Canadian continued to wear on Lockney out scoring them 21-9 in the second period. With just over three minutes left before the half, Lockney would suffer a critical loss, with a reoccurring shoulder injury to point guard Heather Brock. "Anytime Heather is not on the floor it's a huge loss, but i felt like some of the other girls came in a did a good job."said Schumacher

It was after the intermission that the Canadian Lady Cats began to turn on the heat with a 5-0 run and out scoring the Lady Horns 24-10 at the end of third quarter. "I felt like all night long we did a good job in the full court as far as handling the ball, but when we went into the half court set we struggled a little bit." said Schumacher "My kids never gave up, they worked hard the entire ballgame. Their hearts were huge last night!"

Canadian would finish the game in the fourth with Morgan Saul, who led all scorers with 26 points and 14-15 from the free throw line.

Coach Schumacher said "We loose six senior this year but we have a good group of young kids coming that work really hard and love the game, so we are excited about that."
