For the first time since 1966, the Floydada Lady Winds own the rights to call themselves "District Champions". With a 7-3 record during district play, the Lady Winds captured only the second Sole District title in 43 years. According to Head Coach Mark Styles "It has been a tremendous year, and hopefully we are not through." The Lady Winds will play the Nazareth Swiftettes in an exhibition game tonight in Floydada at 6:30pm. When asked why Nazareth, Coach Mark Styles replied "Well of course, we had to find somebody who won their District because all of the Bi-District games are being played tonight and tomorrow. Chances are we are going to play Shallowater Friday and we want to be ready for that. We want to continue to play at a high level no matter if it's Shallowater or whoever we play in the area round. And, who better than Nazareth to keep us there."
With the Lady Winds (19-10) enter the play-offs as the number one seed to represent District 2-2A, they will face the winner of No. 6 ranked Shallowater Fillies (27-3) vs. the No. 24 seed Kermit Lady Jackets (14-14) in Lamesa tonight at 6:30pm. According to Head Coach T'Linda Taylor of the Shallowater Fillies "We look forward to the oppuourtunity to play Floydada however, this is the time of the year where you have to play your very best every game."
