Lady Winds Tennis Duo Headed to Austin


The girls doubles team of Jennifer Rainwater and Lexie Terrell brought home the Silver Medal at the Regional Tennis tournament. In their first round they defeated the team of Rachel Westmoreland and Veronica Zamora from Littlefield 6-0, 6-0. In a tough quarterfinals match the girls defeated Candace McClure and Corey Burnsen of Jim Ned 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. In Semifinals action the team of Monica Taylor and Hillary Borrego of Sonora were the next to fall the the duo from Floydada 6-4, 6-2 and in the Finals the team of Rainwater and Terrell were defeated by Martiza Sosa and Victoria Marquez of Reagan County. 2-6, 0-6.


" I am so very proud of each and every player that represented Floydada High School. They all competed to the best of their ability and showed great pride and determination. These student-athletes are extremely talented not only on the tennis courts but in the classroom as well." said Coach Nixon

In Girls Singles action Brityn Helms defeated Anna Neuzilova a foreign exchange student from Olney 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 and in the Quarterfinals fell to the regional champion from San Saba Taylor Hibler. 1-6, 0-6.

In Mixed Doubles the team of Titus Miller and Kaylie Nutt were defeated by Marcus Medellin and Mica McGuire of Shallowater 0-6, 6-3, 6-2 in an exciting 3 setter. "I want to say a few comments on this team. Titus and Kaylie have been a bright spot on the courts in Mixed doubles. I love watching Titus just get after everything. He is all over the place and Kaylie has such a sweet nature until you give her a short shot at the net then she will make you eat that ball. Lots of fun watching these two. "

In other Girls Doubles action the team of Kelbie Day and Lindsey Beedy fell to a very athletic team from Shallowater Haley Burton and Claire Blackwell 06, 1-6. " The girls doubles team of Kelbie and Lindsey you guys have played super tennis all year. Kelbie and her crush the opponents at the net and Lindsey’s solid."
